This composition shingle roof job in the Wood Fern subdivision of Harris County was for a previously satisfied customer. Ms. “C” requested the same Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing crew that had completed other projects on her nearby Houston, Texas properties, and homes.
The Wood Fern neighborhood is near the Energy Corridor in Houston. The Energy Corridor contains over 26 million square feet of office space and over 300 companies and is home to numerous mega-companies such as BP America, ConocoPhillips, and Citgo.
The Houston home incurred hail damage, and our company helped Ms. C file an insurance claim to replace the roof, including a revised job estimate to acquire a supplemental payment for leak-damaged interior sheetrock repair.
A state windstorm insurance inspection isn’t required in this portion of Harris County. However, at Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing we install all roofs in the Greater Houston Area in accordance with TWIA (windstorm insurance) guidelines.
Ms. C also requested the design and installation of a translucent patio cover by our company for an existing ‘cut-out’ portion of her home.
During removal of the existing roof on this Houston home, we installed ten 2x6 10’ framing members to a rectangular inset portion of the house (a span of approximately 12’ between two exterior rakes) and attached a plastic translucent patio style paneled roof (see accompanying photos).
Additionally, approximately three sheets of rotted plywood decking were replaced and the brick chimney was scored to receive pre-painted steel chimney counter flashing.
The completed project included new pre-painted steel drip edge, GAF StormGuard® leak barrier valley underlayment, GAF Cobra ridge vent, GAF felt buster roofing underlayment, and a Timberline HD Weathered Gray shingle with matching GAF Royal Sovereignty ridge and starter shingles. (These are all key components of the Lifetime Roofing System offered by GAF.)
A “clean-up incentive worksheet” and final inspection checklist for supervisors marks the completion of another well-done job by Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing in the small Northwest Houston subdivision of Wood Fern.
