Challenge
Single-ply TPO is one of the most durable and one of the most popular flat roofs in the industry. TPO is energy efficient, with a white surface that reflects the sun’s rays and helps keep a building cool during the summer. A TPO roof is a great choice for a small resort in hot and sunny Galveston, Texas. A repeat customer called our company to check out an existing TPO roof on a getaway near the beach in Galveston. Upon inspection, we discovered several problem areas that needed attention.
Solution
Any roof, whether it’s a small house or a luxury hotel, is only as good as its installation. But for many reasons, over time, problem areas can begin to show up. Plus, post-roof installation of items such as pipes or AC units can cause holes and punctures, which was the case with this Galveston resort roof. All areas of concern were easily solved by a two-man certified crew from Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing in just under a day.
A simple heat welded TPO patch was applied to several puncture areas, and also to approximately ten “T-Joint” areas. (T-joints are any areas of flat roof material that happen to intersect.) Also, approximately 205’ of “walk pads” (textured areas installed specifically for foot traffic) that had loosened were cleaned and secured again with fresh welds.
More work is planned for the Galveston, Texas resort by Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing, but getting these leak-prone areas secured and water-tight with simple patch repairs was an obvious priority.
