Challenge
This partial two-story home in Katy, Texas is a good example of a fairly complex residential roof job. Though most of the roof slopes were moderately pitched, there were plenty of tall and steep areas to
contend with.
The Katy home had suffered hail damage. The homeowner was referred to our company by a previous customer in the same neighborhood.
We helped the homeowner file an insurance claim for a new roof, including a necessary supplemental payment. We also helped the homeowner obtain a loan to assist with the insurance deductible.
Katy, Texas, is in Fort Bend County just west of Houston. A thirty-lane section of Interstate 10 near Katy is the widest freeway in the world. Katy has been named nationally as one of the top ten most notable high-growth areas in the United States. Several corporations are headquartered in the area including British Petroleum.
Solution
The existing roof on this hail-damaged home in Katy happened to be the popular GAF Timberline High Definition laminate composition shingle.
After removing approximately 3700 square feet of the old roofing material we installed the exact same GAF High Definition style shingle, including the same previous Charcoal color.
Although windstorm insurance, and thus periodic inspections from TWIA (Texas Windstorm Insurance Association), isn’t required in Fort Bend County, a permit is still a must if the house is within the city limits of Katy.
A roofing underlayment is always necessary to protect a home against possible wind-driven rain penetrating the shingle surface. A special GAF Felt Buster underlayment was installed on this Katy home, including double coverage to two low-sloped areas for extra protection.
A GAF StormGuard® leak barrier underlayment was applied to all valley areas. GAF StormGuard® Leak Barrier is a key part of the Lifetime Roofing System offered by GAF.
New color-coordinated pre-painted steel drip edge was installed around the perimeter of the house, existing air hawk and wind turbine air vents were replaced and painted, and the existing wood chimney was
re-flashed.
A “Roofs For Troops” $250 veteran rebate from the GAF shingle company was a sweet finishing touch to another great roof job in Katy, Texas by Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing Company.
