Roof Replacement Photo Album: From Severe Granule Loss to a Brand New Roof
The owner of this La Porte, TX home called us for a full roof replacement, as the existing shingles had severe granule loss, and were far too worn out to repair. The granules on the top of the shingle are what protect the shingle's fiberglass-reinforced asphalt structure from the elements. Without that layer of protection, it's only a matter of time before the asphalt cracks and crumbles away, allowing rain and moisture to soak through and cause extensive damage to the decking and rafters underneath. In addition to replacing the old shingles with new GAF Timberline HD shingles, we added ridge vents to help moisture to escape from the attic. Unless an attic is completely sealed and climate controlled, moisture buildup is inevitable. This can lead to problems ranging from rotten wood to mold growth.
